{alcircleadd}When we compare it year on year, we observe, UAE exported about 2.61 million tonnes of aluminium and aluminium alloys in 2017. This records a growth of about 2.7% over last year. Data shows, UAE earned export revenues of about US$ 4 billion in 2017 and it increased to US$ 4.1 billion in 2018. This shows that the aluminium tariffs imposed by the US have no significant impact on UAE’s overall aluminium export.
When we look at UAE’s aluminium export to the U.S., we observe a drop in total aluminium export YoY. UAE accounted for 10% of all aluminium imports by the US during the first ten months of 2018.
The UAE exported 659,276 tonnes of aluminium and aluminium alloys to the U.S. in 2017. The amount dropped to 596,211tonnes in 2018 registering a drop of about 9.5%. Though the export to the US dropped the country diverted its exports to other destinations. Since, Rusal aluminium was sanctioned by the U.S. in April 2018, aluminium producers from India and the Middle East supplied that gap and earned solid export revenue. The UAE is negotiating with the U.S. to exempt it from President Donald Trump’s blanket 10-percent tariffs on aluminium imports and expects to be relieved from the tariffs in 2019.
