
The US imported 117,000 tonnes of aluminium semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) in July, with a year-on-year increase of 11.43%, as updated by the US Census Bureau.
This is the fourth straight month of decline in the imports of semi-finished. The imports dropped by 10.69% from June’s imports of 131,000 tonnes, 13.33% from May’s imports of 135,000 tonnes, and 18.18% from April’s imports of 143,000 tonnes.

Imports of aluminium semi-finished products stood at 925,000 tonnes in the first seven months of 2019, indicating an increase of 10.38%. The US had imported 838,000 tonnes in the first seven months of 2018.
The US imports of total aluminium (crude metal and alloys, aluminium semi-finished products and scrap) in July edged lower by 48.31% year-on-year. Imports stood at 260,000 tonnes, from 503,000 tonnes. Aluminium imports declined 48% from June, 45.61% from May, and 49.02% from April.
Imports of aluminium including scrap reduced 17.57% or 680,000 tonnes to 3.19 million tonnes in January-July. The US had imported 3.87 million tonnes of aluminium in January-July 2018.
