The IX International Congress & Exhibition of Non-Ferrous Metals and Minerals -2017 concludes successfully at Krasnoyarsk

Krasnoyarsk hosted IХ International Congress & Exhibition “Non-Ferrous Metals and Minerals – 2017” from September 11 to15 that consists of three industry conferences under the chairmanship of P.V. Polyakov (Doctor of Chemistry, Professor), G. L. Pashkov (corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Technology, Professor), V.A. Makarov (Doctor of Geology and Mineralogy, Professor). The three conferences were:

1. Aluminum of Siberia
2. Metallurgy of non-ferrous, rare and precious metals
3. Gold of Siberia

This year the Congress also hosted an International meeting  with the topic “Contemporary issues of comprehensive processing of rebellious ores and technogenic raw materials” and the Plaksin readings Conference.

More than 700 experts from 194 companies from 24 countries of the world attended the Congress&Exhibition – 2017 including scientists, doctors,  post-graduates and young scientists. Leading scientists from Russia, Switzerland, Great Britain, New Zealand, China, USA, Norway and UAE conducted a series of workshops before the opening of the Congress.

This year, the subjects of the overview lectures were the based on the following topics:

• Casting of aluminum and its alloys
• Aluminum reduction technology

During one of the lectures Prof. P.V. Polyakov presented his new book “Life of the aluminum cell. General principles”, which is in the prceess to be published. At the official opening of the Congress, Anatoly Tsykalov - Minister of Industry, Energy and Trade of the Russian Federation and Evgeny Vaganov - Rector of Siberian federal university awarded appreciation letters of the Krasnoyarsk krai Governor and medals for the contribution to the non-ferrous metallurgy development to prof I.A. Kholkin, prof. of St. Petersburg mining university V.M. Sizyakov,  prof. of  Institute of Geology and Mineralogy of the RAS V.I. Lebedev, Dr.Sc. Honorary Professor of Norwegian University of Science and Technology H. Kvande and Dr.Tech.Sc. Honorary metallurgist, counselor of UC RUSAL managing director V.A. Kruykovskiy.

Victor Mann - Technical director of UC RUSAL and Professor Peter Polyakov – chairman of the Organizing Committee gave the inaugural speech.  

Participants and visitors of the Congress&Exhibition had unique opportunity to get information about current state and trends of the non-ferrous metallurgy market, about new achievements of science and manufacturing, and presented results of their scientific research.

Total 220 papers about current non-ferrous metallurgy market trends and scientific and industrial achievements were presented. And about 100 reports were made within 5 sections of the Plaksin readings Conference. A special session with the topic “Metallurgy of non-ferrous, rare and precious metals” was organized for young specialists, students and postgraduates.

Honorary diplomas were awarded to a number of personalities picked from different sections of the report presentations.

Electronic book of Congress Proceedings will be included into the Russian Science Citation Index, and the best papers recommended by session chairmen will be published in reviewed journals included into the catalogue of leading peer-reviewed scientific journals and indexed in Scopus and Web of Science databases.

Sessions of the Congress also included a number of symposiums including “Complex processing of aluminium raw materials”, “Evolution of Russian technology for the production of aluminium”, “Chemistry and chemical technologies: Achievements and prospects”. Presentations at the sessions were made by outstanding scientists, members of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The Congress presented four round tables this year :

1. “Precious metals: from raw materials to final products”
2. “Pot relining”
3. “Problems and state participation in development of advanced processing of aluminum alloys and wastes of aluminium production”
4. “Innovations in corporations: problems and solutions”

At the Exhibition 47 Russian and foreign companies presented their development, technologies, materials and equipment for mining and metallurgical industry, hold negotiations and seminars for the participants.

The Congress participants got the knowledge of industrial potential of Krasnoyarsk krai, visiting the following enterprises: RUSAL Krasnoyarsk Aluminum smelter, Krasnoyarsk metallurgical plant, scientific-analytical laboratory of RUSAL ETC Casting Center etc.

In additional to formal activities participants had an opportunity to join the social program including visits to Krasnoyarsk krai sights, initiation into Siberians and knowing of Russian  habits and nature within the tours to Cryophile club (cold swimming in the Yenisei river) and Stolby (Pillars) nature reserve.
