Taiwan imports considerable amount of aluminium alloys to supplement domestic production and make value added products. Taiwan manufactures about 819,000 tonnes of aluminium domestically in four main categories: Secondary Aluminium Alloy, Casting, Rolling and Extrusion Industries.
The country’s imports were mainly driven by UAE and Russia in 2017. Taiwan's import of aluminium alloy from UAE increased year on year. The country imported about 104638 tonnes of aluminium alloy in 2017. The trend is expected to continue through 2018.
{alcircleadd}Russia exported about 41712 tonnes of aluminium alloy to Taiwan in 2017, an increase of 2.59% from 2016 total of 40660 tonnes. Taiwan’s imports of aluminium alloy from Russia estimated to decline to 35660 tonnes in 2018, down from 6052 tonnes in 2017. Qatar, China and Bahrain also export substantial amount of aluminium alloy to Taiwan. Last year, Qatar and China exported about 28707 tonnes and 17383 tonnes of materials respectively.

The data shows a constant rise in import of aluminium alloys. In 2016, Taiwan imported about 244408 tonnes of aluminium alloys from global market. The volume increased to 268144 tonnes in 2017, up 9.71% year on year. Total volume is estimated to be about 304394 tonnes in 2018.

Cost from import of aluminium alloy in Taiwan also increased year-over-year. The cost from aluminium alloy import was USD 0.45 million and USD 0.58 million for the years 2016 and 2017 respectively. For 2018, the cost of import is estimated to be about USD 0.73 million.
