Four new machined aluminium threaded inserts, designed for heat or ultrasonic installation into straight plastic holes, have been launched by SPIROL, a manufacturer of fasteners and components. The latest addition includes the Series INS19, INS20, INS29 and INS30, helping to enhance the existing brass product line and broadening the firm's range of threaded inserts, giving customers more options for material choice and performance optimisation.
{alcircleadd}The inclusion of these newly aluminium threaded inserts is designed to accommodate the most common installation methods, such as moulded-in, post-mould (cold) press-in and heat or ultrasonic installation.

The heat and ultrasonic techniques help in remelting the surrounding plastic, which aids the material flow better into the insert’s undercuts and knurls. This results in improved torque resistance and pull-out performance when compared to traditional press-in inserts.
As pointed out by the firm, 2024 aluminium reduces weight, as it scales at just one-third of brass. In the case of lightweight applications and assemblies where every ounce counts, this metal is considered to be the most suitable choice.

Additionally, the 2024 aluminium alloy is lead-free and is in line with the growing environmental, health and safety standards, which are becoming prominent in the global aluminium market. Its galvanic properties also provide greater flexibility when used with different materials, especially compared to traditional brass inserts.
Considering the performance, the strength of 2024 aluminium enhances joint integrity even with less thread engagement, as well as boosts the load-bearing capacity. These features can lead to more efficient designs, simpler assembly processes and overall better performance.
