European leader in aluminium rolling and recycling, Speira, has appointed Johannes Steurer as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective from July 31, 2025. Steurer has formally become responsible for the company's finance, legal and IT teams this week, bringing considerable high-level experience from within the aluminium industry.
Steurer, who is 41, has an impressive track record in the industry, most notably with Swiss-headquartered flexible packaging group Aluflexpack AG. He worked with the company as its CFO from 2012 before being made CEO in 2022.
Track record of excellence
During his time with Aluflexpack, Steurer played a key role in guiding the company's brand direction and progressing its value creation, internationalisation, and sustainability agenda. He is also responsible for heading the company's innovation agenda and delivering profound cultural transformation.
Speira’s CEO, Einar Glomnes, welcomed the hire: “His extensive experience in the industry, especially in the business of our customers, and his performance profile in the fields of finance, IR, legal and compliance, as well as value creation, make Johannes the ideal CFO to take Speira to the next stages.”
An Austrian-born employee, Steurer started his career outside the firm, serving as an investment manager and analyst at Global Equity Partners Group. He has a Magister in Business Administration from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. He has also passed all the exams required for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme, acquiring a solid background in financial and investment management.
A precious addition to an already successful firm
Speira is a leading player in the European aluminium industry with a total of eleven recycling and production plants in Germany and Norway, supported by its own research and development arm. The firm is a pioneer of the circular economy, recycling as much as 650,000 tonnes of aluminium every year and making approximately one million tonnes of next-generation rolled products.
Its stunning portfolio of assets comprises the Alunorf joint venture, the largest aluminium rolling mill in the world, and its Grevenbroich plant, the largest refining and finishing plant of its type. With more than 5,000 employees, Speira is a leading supplier to globally recognised brands in strategic industries like automotive, packaging, printing, and construction. The company has also been busily investing in upgrading its plants. All this bodes well for its industrial future.
