
According to the latest report from Aluminum Association, The Association’s “Index of Net New Orders of Aluminum Mill Products” for May 2019 declined 1.9 per cent from April 2019. Orders for flat roll products (sheet, plate, can stock and foil) were down slightly month on month, while orders for extruded products were off 5.3 per cent. Total orders were down 10.4 per cent YoY. On average, orders recorded by domestic producers through May 2019 were off 6.8 per cent from the same period of 2018.

Shipments of can stock by domestic producers totalled dropped 13 per cent YoY to 312.2 million pounds during May 2019. Month on month shipments were off slightly. YTD shipments through May 2019 were down 7.6 per cent from YTD 2018 to 1,556.1 million pounds. In May, producer shipments of can stock to U.S. markets decreased 6.1 per cent to 290.9 million pounds, while exports dropped 56.9 per cent to 21.3 million pounds YoY.

Estimated net shipments of Aluminum Sheet and Plate by U.S. and Canadian producers dropped 1.5 per cent YoY to 748.2 million pounds during May 2019. Month on month shipments rose 3.0 per cent over April 2019. YTD shipments through May 2019 were up slightly to 3,674.9 million pounds over YTD 2018.
Shipments of Aluminum foil by U.S. and Canadian producers dropped 5.6 per cent to 82.7 million pounds during May 2019. Month on month shipments increased 4.8 per cent over April 2019. YTD shipments through May 2019 dropped 1.4 per cent to 397.0 million pounds from YTD 2018.
