
On December 27, today, the SHFE aluminium price has grown by 0.33 per cent or US$9 per tonne to park at US$2,698 per tonne. Considering the SHFE price on December 27, last year, we may find a Year-on-Year influx of US$19 per tonne or 0.7 per cent from US$2,717 recorded that day.
{alcircleadd}This year, the highest SHFE price was recorded on February 2, when it stood at US$2,847 per tonne, and the lowest was marked on July 7 at US$2,511 per tonne. If we compare with the price point today, there has been a 5.23 per cent or US$149 per tonne slump from the highest displayed price and a 7.45 per cent or US$187 per tonne spike from the lowest defined price in 2023.
In the futures market, the most-traded SHFE 2402 aluminium contract opened at RMB 19235 per tonne overnight, with its low and high at RMB 19200 per tonne and RMB 19280 per tonne before closing at RMB 19240 per tonne, up RMB 50 per tonne or 0.26 per cent.
Overall market synopsis
It's worth noting that the three-month contract aluminium commodity price is showing signs of an upward trend. According to the latest trade transactions tracked by Westmetall, the price of the three-month contract aluminium commodity as of Tuesday, December 12, 2023, has reached US$2136.5 per tonne.
While trade in aluminium products has declined by 9.81 per cent compared to the beginning of the year and has decreased by 0.65 per cent on a yearly basis, there's still hope for a positive upturn. It's important to note that the highest point for this commodity during 2023 was traded at a price of US$2,662 per tonne, which occurred on January 18, 2023.
Despite the fluctuations in the price of aluminium, the average cost of aluminium throughout this year has been recorded at US$2,285.92 per tonne. It should be noted that the price of aluminium has fallen 15.73 per cent from the previous year, which was at US$2,712.54 per tonne in 2022.
