Sheffield Elementary Schools aims to collect one million aluminium cans with its latest campaign

The "Aluminium for Aluminium" initiative aims to gather enough aluminium cans to get new bleachers for the gymnasium. The objective is to achieve a cumulative total of one million cans. According to Principal Jill Johnson, it is quite likely that the wooden bleachers have been in existence since the establishment of the school.

According to her statement, it was indicated that they are no longer engaged in employment. These objects remain stationary and accumulate particles of dust over time.

L.E. Willson has been selected as the only educational institution in Alabama to participate in the Scrap University Kids initiative. The educational institution that accumulates the highest number of cans has the opportunity to be awarded a monetary prize of $3000.

"Our children are learning a lesson on being responsible with our environment and learning some things about recycling. And then it's also important for the students to be able to use their facilities and for us to be able to have a functioning set of bleachers in our gym so that we can have community activities school wide in the gym," added Johnson.

In addition to the compensation the school will get for submitting one million cans, there is an additional amount. During November and April, Scrap University will provide a matching donation equivalent to the amount raised by the school via can collections. As per Johnson, the aluminium cans may be dropped off at the school on Wednesday or at any SA Recycling centre with a note saying they are for L.E. Willson. The campaign will come to an end in May.
