The construction sector in India is projected to emerge as the largest end use sector for Aluminium. It is a major contributor to the country’s GDP (8% in FY12) and one of the largest employment generators currently employing around 33 million people. While the Indian economy grew by 5% in FY13 as compared to 6.2% in FY12, the construction industry grew by 5.9% in FY13 against 5.6% in FY12. This sector holds ample promises for the future of Aluminium in India.

Aluminium being green metal and an effective substitute to wood and also being corrosion resistance, competes with steel, which requires periodical maintenance. Aluminium is considered to be much safer than PVC window and doors and more over easily recyclable qualifying as sustainable and therefore branded as green metal. Because of this, aluminium is used in all types of building / construction and infrastructures and it is very appropriate that BIS undertakes standardization of window and doors, which will help greatly the builders as well as public at large to avail standardized and economical windows and doors etc. for buildings.

With a view to encourage increasing use of aluminium metal in growing buildings / architecture, construction industry and to make sincere efforts in creating awareness amongst public the need to use more aluminium in Buildings, Aluminium Association of India (AAI), an apex body of all aluminium industries in the country, is organizing this Seminar on Aluminium in Building and Construction.
