Rio Tinto reports improved production in third quarter 2016

<p>Rio Tinto has released production results for Q3 2016 reporting improved production in bauxite, alumina and aluminium segments.<br /><br />Commenting on the results, Rio Tinto chief executive J-S Jacques said &ldquo;We have delivered strong quarterly production, underpinned by improving operational performance across our Tier 1 portfolio. Output from our iron ore and bauxite assets reflects the drive for productivity and operational excellence. With a continued focus on value, we will seek further productivity improvements across the business. Our rigorous attention to cash generation, coupled with a disciplined allocation of capital remains our key focus in delivering shareholder value.&rdquo;<br /><br /><img style="vertical-align: middle; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" src="http://www.alcircle.com/uploads/images/Rio.jpg" alt="News" width="480" height="218" /><br /><br />The group reported record bauxite production in the third quarter resulting in a total bauxite output of 35.6 million tonnes during the first three quarters of 2016.<br /><br />Alumina production recorded significant rise of six per cent in Q3, This resulted in five per cent increase in YTD production of 2016 compared with the same period of 2015. This was primarily driven by ramp-up progress and operational improvements at the Yarwun refinery.<br /><br />&nbsp;{googleAdsense}<br /><br />YTD aluminium production recorded an 11 per cent increase in comparison to the same period of 2015 mainly driven by Kitimat smelter, which delivered its second consecutive quarter at nameplate capacity.<br /><br />For the entire year, Rio Tinto&rsquo;s expected share of production for bauxite has increased to 47 million tonnes from 45 million tonnes.
