According to SMM survey statistics, the operating rate of the secondary aluminium alloy industry in September was 35.0 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points M-o-M but down 6.7 percentage points Y-o-Y. Industry production continued its recovery trend, but the overall operating level remained below the same period last year. On the demand side, September marked the traditional peak consumption season, with downstream orders recovering from August. End-use demand from automobiles and other sectors improved marginally, but the peak season effect has yet to fully materialise. Sadoff Iron & Metal Company of Fond du Lac has reached an agreement in principle to acquire Aluminum Resources, Inc. Aluminum Resources, a processor and supplier of foundry and mill grade recycled aluminum products, was founded in 1988. “This acquisition adds a niche market for us that complements our current aluminum and nonferrous business activity, “said Sadoff CEO Mark Lasky in a press release. Sadoff planned to take official ownership of the business by March 31. The new company will take on the name of the parent company and also be known as Sadoff Iron & Metal Company.

The near-term demand picture for the US secondary aluminium industry looks relatively bright while the transport end-markets continue to show strength beyond expectations, Scott Beck, president of Beck Aluminum, said. And a slew of recyclable aluminium cans have been diverted from landfills thanks to efforts by the Emirates Environmental Group.
