Saudi Arabia’s aluminium consumption could climb to as much as 1.8 million tonnes a year by 2030, as the Kingdom ramps up infrastructure and industrial development ahead of the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Ahmad Al-Alshaikh, executive vice president of Maaden’s Aluminum Business Unit, said demand is expected to reach at least 1.6 million tonnes annually by 2030, up from around 1 million tonnes currently. This shows an increase of 19% from the previous quarter flaunting higher overseas premium and tight supply, six sources involved directly in pricing talks said. On Monday, October 4, Hydro announced its decision to invest NOK60 million in a new casting furnace for the aluminium foundry alloy production at its largest and most modern primary aluminium plant in Sunndal. Alcoa Corporation has announced its net-zero emissions plans, which it aims to achieve by 2050. The main intention is to increase the use of renewable energy at operations and bring new innovations to the market. The company said that it would cut 75 per cent of both direct and indirect emissions known as Scope 1 and Scope 2 from aluminium smelting and alumina refining.
