Tokai Carbon Japan, founded in 1918, has extensive experience in carbon-related products mainly graphite electrodes used in electric arc furnaces (steel production) and carbon black used in the production of tires and pigments as well as graphite specialities among others. In 2019, Tokai enlarged its product portfolio by acquiring COBEX, a well-known, market-leading manufacturer of high-performance carbon and graphite solutions for the primary aluminium and iron-making industry as well as other metallurgical smelting processes. In a second step, Tokai Carbon Japan acquired, together with Tokai COBEX, Carbone Savoie, a French flagship manufacturer of carbon and synthetic graphite products, supplying a variety of high-end applications including speciality graphite and graphite powders used in the manufacturing of batteries.
