Vietnam’s first electrolytic aluminium project has reached another major milestone, with the second phase of the 450,000-tonne-per-year (tpa) Da Nong project producing its first batch of molten primary aluminium on October 31, 2026. The milestone, achieved by China Nonferrous Metal Industry’s Foreign Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (NFC), which is the project’s general contractor, came four months and three days ahead of the contractual schedule, officially moving the second phase from construction to trial production. Egypt’s aluminium and copper export values gained 5.3 per cent in 2020 to stand at $748 million, compared to $710 million in 2019, showed the Middle East News Agency (MENA). Algeria, Italy, Turkey, Morocco, Greece, Libya, Sudan, Germany, Lebanon, and Spain were the top exporters, accounting for 70.40 per cent of Egypt’s total aluminium and copper exports in 2020, with a total value of $526.676 million. Primary aluminium production in East & Central Europe rebounded to 352,000 tonnes in December 2020, found the International Aluminium Institute. In November 2020, the output stood at 340,000 tonnes, down by 11,000 tonnes or 0.57 per cent from 351,000 tonnes in October. This brings primary aluminium production in East & Central Europe during the December quarter to 1.043 million tonnes, an increase of only 0.68 per cent quarter-on-quarter from 1.036 million tonnes.
