According to a recent report, the premium for aluminium shipments to Japanese buyers for January to March 2022 is agreed at $177 per tonne, down by 20 per cent from the previous quarter, in line with weaker domestic spot premiums and overseas prices. The news came after six sources directly involved in pricing talks reported this. In the last quarter ended December 31, 2021, the premium was set at $220 per tonne increase by 19 per cent from $185 per tonne in the September quarter. According to a recent report, Vedanta Aluminium Business has entered into an agreement with GEAR (Gemini Equipment and Rentals Private Limited) India to install one of the largest fleets of lithium-ion battery-powered electric forklifts. Vedanta is the first in Indian aluminium industry to undertake such an initiative to replace its diesel-fuelled forklifts. Vedanta will commission the 23 new green fleet forklifts in a phased manner over the next few months at its aluminium smelter in Jharsuguda, Odisha. Egypt Aluminum’s (Egyptalum) (EGAL) marketing head and spokesperson Ehab El Elwany has reported that the company has kept its supplying prices of aluminum to factories and retailers unchanged for January 2022. The price of local aluminium, excluding taxes, is between EGP 52,000 and EGP 64,000, noted El Elwany. On 3 rd January 2022, the largest producer of aluminium in India, Vedanta declared that cast metal aluminium production at its smelters stood at 579,000 tonnes in Q3 of the current financial, documenting a rise of 16%. While filing to the BSE, the company stated: “The cast metal aluminium production at our smelters stood at 5,79,000 tonnes in Q3 FY22, higher 16% in comparison to Q3 FY2021 and 2% as compared to Q2 FY2022.” However, the company’s alumina refinery in Lanjigarh produced 472,000 tonnes of alumina in Q3 FY22, a 16% up-rise when compared to Q3 FY2021 and 8% lower as compared to Q2 FY2022. The American industrial corporation producing aluminium Alcoa Corp has inked a pre-agreement with Capital Energy, a Spanish renewables company to secure some 573 MW of wind power for its San Ciprian aluminium smelter in the north-western part of Spain.
