Power grid growth in China to boost demand for aluminium cables and wires

1MINS READ
According to a report from Shanghai Metals Market, high-voltage power transmission lines that were constructed in 2014 beginning had increased in length by 11% compared to the previous year. This has supported the demand of aluminum cables and wires.

During the months of January & February 4,201 kms of power lines & above 220 kV were built in China while the total power grid investment of the country rose 22% YOY to 40 bn yuan ($6.5 bn) in that same period, China Electricity Council’s report says.

China’s plan to construct high-voltage power grid will keep the demand for aluminium robust before 2017. This is because majority of the transmission lines make use of aluminium cables and wires, according to an earlier report of Shangai Metal Market.

However, the capacity utilization rates of aluminium cables and wires in China dipped to the lowest mark this year in February. SMM’s research team says this has resulted because of the construction of new power lines on order the last year.
