
The Aluminum Association’s “Index of Net New Orders of Aluminum Mill Products” for July decreased 10.3% month on month. Orders for flat roll products (sheet, plate, can stock and foil) dropped 10.1% month-on –month. On an YTD comparison, the orders were up 1.8% in the first seven months of 2017.

Shipments of aluminium foil by U.S. and Canadian producers stood at 84.3 million pounds during July 2017, down 2.1% from July 2016. Compared to the previous month, shipments declined 3.2% from the June 2017 total of 87.2 million pounds. YTD shipments through July 2017 were down 2.8% to 569.3 million pounds from the same period of 2016.

Aluminum Association reports that shipments of can stock by the US and Canadian producers stood at 348.6 million pounds during July 2017, registering a slight drop YoY. Compared to the previous month, shipments rose 1%. Year-to-date shipments through July 2017 dropped 2.4% to 2,397.0 million pounds. Producer shipments of can stock to U.S. markets were up slightly YoY to 297.2 million pounds in July, while exports were down 6.7% to 51.4 million pounds.
