Odisha government submits Centre reports on 12 village councils, held in Rayagada and Kalahandi dists to decide Vedanta's mining plan in Niyamgiri.
The report will be submitted at the Supreme Court. The state government had conducted village councils complying with the decision of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had ruled that the Vedanta Group’s bauxite mining project in the Niyamgiri Hills of Odisha will have to get clearance from the gram sabha, considering the cultural and religious rights of the tribals and forest dwellers living in Rayagada and Kalahandi districts.
