Oman Aluminium Rolling Company (OARC), a well-known manufacturer of aluminium sheets in Sohar, and Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO), the leading marketer and distributor of multi-sector fuel and lubricant products, have inked a contract for the delivery of green biofuel blends.
In a cooperation that will help reduce OARC's carbon impact, this arrangement makes OOMCO the first gasoline marketer to offer biofuel in the Oman market and OARC the first corporation in Oman to adopt such economically and environmentally responsible B5 Biodiesel by OOMCO.
Wakud International (Wakud) will produce renewable green fuel at its biodiesel facility in Barka's Khazaen Economic City. An Omani SME, Wakud, uses biofuels from recycled cooking oils in Oman's hospitality sector.
Tarik Al Junaidi, the Chief Executive Officer of OOMCO, said, “This agreement is a step forward on the national and global path towards the transition to a carbon-neutral society. As climate change continues to push for lower greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable solutions that can adapt to the decarbonization objectives of our partners, we seek to distribute decarbonized products.
He added, “Our collaboration with Oman Aluminium Rolling Company and Wakud will further contribute to Oman’s circular and green economy ambitions.”
The agreement with OARC to reduce carbon emissions is aligned with OOMCO's ongoing dedication to using clean, sustainable energy in its operations. Additionally, as biodiesel B5 is designed to cut carbon emissions by 4.3%, this is the first step toward Oman's 2050 goal of becoming carbon neutral. OARC will employ B5 in its aluminium rolling operations as a quick fix in decarbonization.
Peter Rijkoort, Chief Executive Officer of OARC, said, “There is an urgent need for companies like ours to address the challenges while leveraging the opportunities associated with decarbonisation. Using blended biofuels for our production processes can lower our company’s direct emissions by 5% while remaining cost-effective.”
“We believe this partnership with Oman Oil Marketing Company and Wakud will collectively contribute to reducing the carbon footprint in Oman”, Peter added.
