An upscale shopping complex in the Waterfall City in South Africa has covered its conspicuous façade with Novelis ff2 pre-painted aluminium sheet. The mall which came up in 2016 as a part of the urban development plan of the 1.73mn sqm-township stands tall with its signature Tadmoormetallic shade of aluminium façade, a light metallic colour developed by Novelis, with a transparent protective layer on the other side of the metal sheet.
The architectural agency MDS Architecture selected Novelis ff2 pre-painted aluminium sheet for its outstanding processing features and ready-to-use properties.
{alcircleadd}While explaining the method of aluminium façade erection on the cladding of the integrated multi-story car park, MDS executive architect Tia Kanakakis said different sizes were cut from 1,437 x 3,880 mm ff2® aluminium sheets on the CNC-controlled machines and formed into individual patterns. These shapes were then fixed on a vertically installed aluminium substructure in a selective manner with varying wall spacings of between 100 and 400 mm by the installer Alania Building Systems.
Thereafter, a horizontal sinusoidal wave structure was created on a total area of 4.000 m by laying the aluminium plates horizontally giving the car park façade a unique look which can be seen from a distance.
Thanks to the weather-resistant PVdF coating and its low-maintenance requirements, Novelis’ ff2® pre-painted aluminium sheet can be used in extreme climate zones. It is characterised by its longevity and proved to be the ideal construction material for ambitious projects such as RTKL Mall of Africa.
The solid aluminium sheet ff2 is also non-combustible and classified within the best fire protection class of A1 according to DIN EN 13501, Novelis confirmed.
