
The Federal Government of Nigeria has committed to revive the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) for sustainable commercial operations.

According to the Federal government, this was part of efforts that were being articulated to actualize its vision of creating a flourishing nation through the diversification of the economy and pull out Nigerians from poverty.
Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development during his two-day visit to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State states the above words at the Government House.
On behalf of the Head, Press and Public Relations Unit of the ministry, Tine-lulun Maureen signed a statement, which says the minister’s visit was to, among other things, share the vision and policy thrust of the Federal Government towards the development of the nation’s solid minerals and metals Industry.

The minister solicited: “The support and partnership of the state government in ensuring orderly and efficient exploitation of huge deposits of silica sand, glass sand and clay that abound in the state as well as sensitize mining operators, host communities and other stakeholders to ensure that mining activities are conducted in a safe and environmentally friendly manner as provided in the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act, 2007.”
Dr Ogah further said: “Exploitation and utilization of the nation’s mineral resources would serve as a formidable foundation for industrialization, stressing the need for collaboration in the areas of provision of an access road to sand dredging sites.”
The minister acclaimed that the establishment and provisions of mutual synergy and partnership would pay back both the Federal Government and the state as it would improve revenue generation for sustainable growth, bring social securities by creating employment opportunities and deliver economic empowerment for the host mining communities.
Governor Udom, in his remarks, appreciated the government for its resolve to revive ALSCON, and said: “It would increase the revenue generated from the mining sector in the state, assuring the minister to personally monitor the project during the resuscitation.”
