On 3rd October 2022, Mitsubishi Power, a power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (M.H.I.), announced that it had inked a long-term service agreement (LTSA) with Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the first aluminium smelter in the Middle East. Parts, repairs, and services are covered under the LTSA for Mitsubishi Power's innovative J-series gas turbine power block, which has a 680.9 megawatts (M.W.) capacity. It will enhance Alba's aluminium production, a cornerstone of Bahrain's economic growth and development, by improving reliability, efficiency, and availability of power supply.

Alba recently signed a contract with Mitsubishi Power & SEPCOIII to design, engineer, procure, construct and commission a new combined cycle gas turbine power block for Bahrain's Power Station 5. The Mitsubishi Power combined cycle power unit will consist of an M701JAC gas turbine, an air-cooled version of the J-series gas turbine, and a steam turbine. Under the terms of this agreement, Alba will benefit from Mitsubishi Power's comprehensive warranties and extended service support to enhance and drive performance and efficiency.
Khalid Salem, the President of Middle East & Africa at Mitsubishi Power, said: "As part of our growing partnership with Alba, Mitsubishi Power is proud to support Alba with this long-term service agreement for the new Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Block 4 in Power Station 5, which we were awarded earlier this year."
"We are committed to supporting Alba in providing and ensuring reliable and efficient power supply while continuously enhancing operational excellence and productivity and reducing operating and fuel costs to meet its commercial and environmental goals."
Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa, the Chairman of Alba, further added by saying, "With commercial operations set to begin in Q4 2024, the LTSA will be essential to ensure Alba's Block 4 provides uninterrupted, reliable power while supporting our long-term vision for sustainable and efficient Aluminium production."
This agreement will also include Mitsubishi Power's award-winning TOMONI® suite of intelligent solutions for Alba's new Power Block 4 in Power Station 5, a customizable, user-driven digital power plant solution based on cutting-edge analytics and decades of turbine operating and monitoring data. Using big data, TOMONI provides real-time predictive insights, adaptive control and actionable knowledge for improved power plant performance, reliability, and optimization.

The company will leverage its decades of experience and innovation to offer customers in the Middle East and North Africa advanced, innovative, and clean energy solutions that will help them achieve a robust, reliable, and resilient energy infrastructure to help them reach their goal of becoming carbon-neutral.
