
Malaysia’s total imports of aluminium including scrap from the US stood at 20,500 tonnes in May 2019, 22.75 per cent per cent higher than the corresponding period of 2018, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey. Total aluminium imports including scrap stood at 79,100 tonnes in the first five months of 2019. That was up 60.45 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Malaysia’s imports of aluminium scrap from the US came in at 77,600 tonnes in January-May 2019, up 65 per cent from January-May’s imports of 46,900 tonnes.
Aluminium scrap imports stood at 20,200 tonnes in May, 2019 as compared to 16,000 tonnes in May, 2018. This represents an increase of 26.25 per cent year-on-year. Imports increased 10.38 per cent from April’s import volume of 18,300 tonnes.
Imports of aluminium semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) stood at 348 tonnes in May. Imports dropped 49.49 per cent year-on-year, but up 1.46 per cent month-on-month. During January-May, total imports came in at 1,470 tonnes.
