On Tuesday, March 22, Magna BDW technologies have been successfully accredited with ASI Performance Standard Certification with a focus on Material Stewardship for its automotive sector at Markt Schwaben factory in Germany. Following Magna PT B.V. & Co. KG, which received Performance Standard Certification in October 2021, it is the second Magna Group subsidiary to get ASI Certification.

High-pressure aluminium casting of car body structure components, such as pillars, shock towers, and floor rails, is the primary activity of the Markt Schwaben complex. Complex forms, great product durability, and effective integration with mating components may all be produced using the high-pressure casting technique. SZI GmbH conducted an impartial third-party audit of the Magna BDW technologies GmbH site.
“We warmly congratulate Magna BDW technologies on achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification at its Markt Schwaben plant. In contrast to traditional automotive body structure design and manufacture, the castings produced here accomplish the same function with less variability and mass, along with light-weighting, and quality advantages. The ASI Performance Standard Certification demonstrates that the company uses its product design, scrap management and recycling strategy to maximise aluminium’s circularity properties,” said Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI.
“We want to produce our products responsibly and conscientiously, so sustainability is an integral part of our business strategy. With the successful ASI certification we have an additional confirmation that we are taking the right actions,” stated Markus Wimmer, General Manager at Magna BDW technologies.
The ASI Certification programme is the first complete voluntary sustainability standard project for the aluminium value chain established after considerable multi-stakeholder input. Product design, life cycle evaluations, process scrap management, and product collection and recycling are all covered by ASI Performance Standard certifications concentrating on'material stewardship.'
