LME aluminium price stands 2.4% higher at US$2694/t; SHFE price soars for the second day in a row to US$3093/t

LME aluminium opened at US$2,676 per tonne last Friday and closed at US$2,733.50 per tonne, an increase of US$52.5 per tonne or 1.96 per cent.

On Friday, December 17, LME aluminium cash (bid) price and LME aluminium official settlement price soared by US$64 per tonne or 2.4 percent to come in at US$2,692 per tonne and US$2,694 per tonne, respectively. 3-month bid price and 3-month offer price jumped by US$66 per tonne to US$2,710 per tonne and US$2,711 per tonne. December 22 bid price and December 22 offer price hovered around US$2,695 per tonne and US$2,700 per tonne, up by US$57 per tonne from the previous day.

LME aluminium opening stock registered at 979600 tonnes. Live warrants and Cancelled Warrants were found 821350 tonnes and 158250 tonnes, respectively.

LME aluminium 3-month Asian Reference Price settled at US$2,706.72 per tonne.

SHFE Aluminium Price Trend

On Monday, December 20, the benchmark aluminium price for SHFE grew for the second day in a row to stand at US$3,093 per tonne.

The most-traded SHFE 2201 aluminium contract opened at RMB 19,785 per tonne during last Friday’s night session, with the highest and lowest prices at RMB 19,845 per tonne and RMB 19,635 per tonne before closing at RMB 19,705 per tonne, down by RMB 15 per tonne or 0.08 per cent.

The most-traded SHFE 2201 aluminium closed up 3.46 per cent or RMB 660 per tonne to RMB 19720 per tonne, with open interest down 896 lots to 135101 lots.
