
LME aluminium opened at US$2,995 per tonne on Tuesday and closed at US$3,020 per tonne, an increase of US$20 per tonne or 0.67 per cent.

On Tuesday, January 18, both LME aluminium cash (bid) price and LME aluminium official settlement price slipped by only US$3 per tonne to stand at US$3005 per tonne and US$3006 per tonne, respectively. However, on the other hand, 3-month bid price and 3-month offer price grew by US$11.50 per tonne and US$10 per tonne to come in at US$3005.50 per tonne and US$3006 per tonne. December 23 bid price and December 23 offer price for the same day stood at US$2,733 per tonne and US$2,738 per tonne.
LME aluminium opening stock decreased from 892800 tonnes to 884125 tonnes. Live warrants decreased to 476475 tonnes, while Cancelled warrants climbed to 407650 tonnes.
LME aluminium 3-month Asian Reference Price remained restrained at US$3,019.68 per tonne.

SHFE aluminium price
On Wednesday, January 19, the benchmark aluminium price for SHFE has surged by US$64 per tonne after the past two days of decline. That brought the price to US$3,392 per tonne.
The most-traded SHFE 2202 aluminium closed up 1.04 per cent or RMB 220 per tonne to stand at RMB 21,290 per tonne, with open interest down 4939 lots to 139734 lots.
Overnight, the most-traded SHFE aluminium contract opened at RMB 21,215 per tonne, with the highest and lowest prices at RMB 21,535 per tonne and RMB 21,200 per tonne before closing at RMB 21,420 per tonne, up by RMB 265 per tonne or 1.25 per cent.
