LME aluminium price loses US$79/t this week to settle at US$2153/t; SHFE price trends down by US$48/t

The LME aluminium benchmark price has slipped by US$79 per tonne this week from September 19 to 23. On Monday, both LME aluminium cash bid price and LME aluminium official settlement price began the week with a decline of US$26 per tonne and US$27 per tonne, respectively, to stand at US$2,231 per tonne and US$2,232 per tonne, respectively. On Tuesday, the prices rose by US$14 per tonne and US$13.50 per tonne to rest at US$2,245.50 per tonne but dropped to an 18-month low on Wednesday, September 21, by 2.4 per cent to US$2,189 per tonne and US$2,191 per tonne. On Thursday, the prices increased again by US$6 per tonne and US$4.50 per tonne to US$2,195 per tonne and US$2,195.50 per tonne but ended the week with a sharp fall to US$2,152 per tonne and US$2,153 per tonne, respectively.

3-month bid price and 3-month offer price shrank by US$20 per tonne or 0.88 per cent to stand at US$2,246 per tonne to US$2,247 per tonne on Monday, September 19, which on the next day grew by US$19 per tonne to US$2,265 per tonne and US$2,266 per tonne. On Wednesday, September 21, the prices plunged by US$49 per tonne and US$48 per tonne to halt at US$2,189 per tonne and US$2,191 per tonne, and further dropped to US$2,214.50 per tonne and US$2,215.50 per tonne on Thursday, September 22. They closed the week further low at US$2,171 per tonne and US$2,172 per tonne, respectively.

December 23 bid price and December 23 offer price fell through the week from US$2,335 per tonne and US$2,340 per tonne to US$2,272 per tonne and US$2,277 per tonne, respectively. LME aluminium opening stock declined from 346325 tonnes to 340350 tonnes.

SHFE aluminium price

The benchmark aluminium price for SHFE also trended down this week by US$48 per tonne. On Monday, it started the week at US$2,691 per tonne, which slipped by US$14 per tonne to US$2,677 per tonne on Tuesday and further fell to US$2,630 per tonne on Wednesday, September 21. On Thursday, the price only inched down by US$1 per tonne but gained US$14 per tonne at the end of the week to close at US$2,643 per tonne as of September 23.
