Kibar Americas acquires 100-year-old former Novelis facility

Kibar Americas confirmed in a press release that it is acquiring the former Novelis aluminium plant in Fairmont, West Virginia, in a bid to strengthen its operations in the United States. This acquisition marks a fresh chapter for the long-standing industrial site, which is over 100 years old. The purchase comes nearly a year after the facility was shut in March 2025.

The facility was known for flat-rolled aluminium production, supporting the local manufacturing base in West Virginia. More than 200 workers lost their jobs when it stopped operating.

City officials worked relentlessly to keep the manufacturing site eligible for future investment. This year-long dedication proved right in terms of infrastructure and community support.

City Manager Travis L. Blosser stated, “We believe this purchase is a testament to the attractiveness of the workforce and infrastructure here in Fairmont, specifically when it comes to this facility. As a City, we’re committed to making strategic investments that encourage and support players like Kibar Americas to have a stake in our community. We’re excited to welcome them to Fairmont.”

Mayor Anne E. Bolyard added, “Our residents have proven their resiliency time and time again, and in this circumstance, I’m positive that resiliency is what made this deal attractive. My statement from a year ago remains true: now, more than ever, we must band together, continue our investments in our community, and charge full speed ahead.”

Kibar Americas confirmed it will carry out a full assessment of this site to determine future operational support and local economic growth. The company has also promised to work with the utility partners for energy supply and redevelopment plans.

Kibar Americas Director Göksal Güngör stated, “Kibar Americas is proud to invest in West Virginia and the Fairmont community. This acquisition underscores our commitment to creating long-term value through collaboration and innovation.”
