Hydro completes acquisition of Arconic's two extrusion plants in Brazil

Norsk Hydro completes s acquisition of Arconic’s two extrusion plants in Brazil on April 2, 2018, strengthening Hydro’s downstream position in Brazil and creating a solid platform for further growth.

The two extrusion plants at Utinga and Tubarão in southern Brazil that belonged to Arconic have one casthouse, seven extrusion presses ranging from 7 to 14 inches, and value-added capabilities. He plants have more than 600 employees.

After completing the acquisition of Sapa, Hydro has lined up the growth solutions of its  Extruded Solutions business and the  transaction is in line with that and will strengthen Hydro’s downstream position in Brazil.

With the acquisition of Utinga and Tubarão, Hydro will become the market leader in the Brazilian extrusion market,” says Executive Vice President and Head of Extruded Solutions, former Sapa, Egil Hogna.

Hydro’s extruded solutions division in South America will continue to be headed by Haroldo Chieza, with an extended management team. The company will retain the plant managers in Utinga and Tubarão. Hydro South America’s Extruded Solutions business is part of the business unit Precision Tubing, headed by Senior Vice President and Head of Precision Tubing Sergio Vendrasco.

Norsk Hydro aquired Orkla’s 50% ownership in Sapa in October 2017, establishing its position as the global leader in extruded aluminium solutions and a leading player in the global aluminium industry.
