Hydro appoints Hanne Simensen as new EVP for Bauxite & Alumina

Hanne Simensen will become Executive Vice President (EVP) for Bauxite & Alumina at Norsk Hydro, effective November 1, 2026, succeeding John Thuestad, who is stepping down after eight years in the role.
Simensen joined Hydro in 1994 and has held several senior positions across the company. She has served as EVP for Aluminium Metal since 2024, following earlier roles as EVP for People & HSE, Senior Vice President (SVP) and Head of Aluminium Metal Commercial, and SVP and Director of Global Business Services.

She holds a Master of Management from BI Norwegian Business School.
Thuestad, 66, has served as EVP for Bauxite & Alumina since 2018. He joined Hydro in 2017 after previously serving as EVP at SAPA from 2012 to 2017, Group President Primary Metals at Alcoa from 2007 to 2012, and CEO of Elkem from 2005 to 2007.
With the leadership change, Simensen will take charge of Hydro’s Bauxite & Alumina business from November 1, while Thuestad steps down after eight years in the position.
