On June 2, the ASI Performance Standard Certification (2017) was awarded to Hammerer Aluminium Industries (HAI) for aluminium extrusion production process at HAI Extrusion GmbH unit in Ranshofen, a municipality in Upper Austria. In 2020, HAI acquired Performance Standard certification for two recycling, casting andremelting facilities, one in Ranshofen, Austria, and the other one in Santana, Romania.
HAI’s Ranshofen facility manufactures extruded, fabricated, and surface-treated aluminium profiles, made of aluminium fabricated, welded, and aluminium composite profiles, using thermally insulated process, destined for the transportation and construction industries. The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is a certification board responsible for the safe handling of aluminium along the supply and production chain. It is the only voluntary, globally accepted standard margin gifted to the industries dealing with aluminium to ensure safe stewardship of the metal. While referring to sustainability concerns in the aluminium value chain, the ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) illustrates 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social. They mainly deal with issues surrounding biodiversity, indigenous people’s rights and greenhouse gas emissions. ASI had first started its Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard certification in December 2017, followed by three years of rectification and the recent publication of new versions in May of this year.
The third-party audit for the HAI extrusion GmbH facility has been independently carried out by the TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH, a professional service provider from Cologne, Germany.
Fiona Solomon, the Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “ASI congratulates Hammerer Aluminium Industries on the Performance Standard Certification for their extrusion operation in Ranshofen. Sustainability is a journey of continuous improvement, and this is demonstrated by HAI, not only in their ESG policies and practices but also in their commitment to achieving ASI Certification at a growing number of production facilities.”
“In view of our high motivation to continuously improve our business processes along the entire value chain and to make them sustainable, we are very proud to have now received the ASI Performance Standard certification for our extrusion and processing plant in Ranshofen. After certifying our two casting plants in 2020 this is the next step to contribute to a better future and make aluminium as part of the solution for the ambitions of the EU Green Deal”, narrated Markus Schober, the COO of HAI Group.
