With the rising growth story of the global aluminium extrusion market, there is an equally important fact that remains constant: The growing demand for aluminium billets. The demand for aluminium extrusion mainly comes from construction, electric vehicles, renewable energy and industrial manufacturing; the billet producers are also expanding capacity, investing in recycled metal and developing specialised alloys to meet evolving market needs. The demand for global aluminium extrusion is expected to grow to 43.58 million tonnes by 2032 and is also expected to grow steadily.

The global aluminium extrusion market is worth about USD 110 billion in 2025. It is on track to cross roughly USD 118 billion in 2026 and reach somewhere between USD 150 billion and USD 175 billion by 2032. The yearly growth rate sits between 6 per cent and 8 per cent, depending on how each research house draws the edges of the market.

  • Solid profiles make up more than half of everything that gets extruded.

Understanding global extrusion market size & why the numbers differ

As per the published estimates in the currently available industrial reports states that for the year 2025–2026, the estimated global aluminium extrusion market size is about USD 105 billion to USD 119 billion. Additionally, it is forecasted that in the early 2030s, the market size might be between USD 147 billion and over USD 190 billion. These estimated numbers indicate that the growth rates in the extrusion market will span somewhere between 4.6 per cent and 9.5 per cent.

Why the spread? Because no two research firms will agree on the same number and each draws the boundary differently. Some count only the extruded product; some add downstream fabrication. Some measure in tonnes, others in dollars and the dollar figure swings every time the aluminium price moves. On the other hand, some use 2022 data and simply roll it forward.

Market segmentation: A closer look at key product and demand categories 

By product form:

Solid profiles lead with more than half of the market, because they are the simplest and cheapest to make and cover the huge construction demand for angles, bars and simple sections. Hollow profiles, on the other hand, grow faster in value terms as electric vehicles and complex thermal parts demand more intricate shapes.

By alloy grade:

  • 1xxx series (near-pure aluminium): This alloy is the fastest-growing grade, driven by electrical uses like busbars and conductors, where conductivity matters more than strength.
  • 6xxx series (aluminium-magnesium-silicon): This alloy grade is considered the workhorse, which is deemed dominant because it balances strength, corrosion resistance and “extrudability.” Most windows, doors and structural profiles make use of the 6xxx alloy series.
  • 5xxx and 7xxx: These alloys cover marine, high-strength and aerospace niches.

Not every available industry report or source provides details at the alloy level and this is the exact area where the buyers, traders and the plant investors require the most clarity. 

By surface finish:

  • Mill-finished: This surface finish holds the largest share as it is extruded and not coated.
  • Anodised: This surface finish is common in architecture and consumer goods because it provides a protective, decorative oxide layer. 
  • Powder-coated: This surface finish adds colour and weather protection for façades and outdoor use.

By end-use industry:

  • Construction and infrastructure: This industry is considered to be the largest consumer because aluminium extrusion is heavily used in window and door frames, curtain walls, structural glazing and solar mounting.
  • Automotive and transport: This industry is now emerging as the fastest-growing driver. This is mainly because aluminium extrusion is used in electric vehicles (EV) battery enclosures, crash structures, chassis and space-frames. It is being used here because it helps to offset heavy batteries and can extend EV range by up to 15 per cent.
  • Electrical and electronics: This industry also makes use of extrusion in heat sinks, busbars and LED housings.
  • Machinery and equipment: This industry demands high-quality aluminium extrusion for its frames, rails and automation structures.
  • Consumer durables: This industry is making use of aluminium extrusion in shaping modern furniture, appliances and sports goods.

By region:

  • Asia Pacific: The region accounts for about 74 per cent of the aluminium extrusion market. This is mainly because China is deemed to be the single largest producer and consumer, followed by India, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam.
  • North America: The region is emerging as one of the fastest-growing regions, powered by EV manufacturing and infrastructure spending.

Beyond market size, what moves the aluminium extrusion market?

The other two forces that can and are moving the global aluminium extrusion market are: 

Price

Extruders buy billet linked to the London Metal Exchange (LME) aluminium price, which further adds the regional premium. When metal prices climb, it is seen that US aluminium moved sharply higher through late 2025 and into 2026, alongside other market factors like tariffs and tight supply, where the extruders either pass the cost on or watch margins shrink. At the same time, the price of the raw material was at 70–80 per cent of the operating cost.

Energy

Heating billets and running presses make use of around 1,000 to 1,500 kWh per tonne. Regions which are high-energy, like Europe, can lift production costs by 20 to 30 per cent and stall capacity expansion. With this, the  US import tariffs are added, which pushed the Midwest Premium up steeply and reshaped trade flows. Because of this, the industry players get a market where those who have cheap energy and secure billet supply are said to be the winners. This is why the map of extrusion capacity is deemed to be shifting toward Asia and the Gulf.

The four trends shaping the next decade

  1. EV lightweighting: In transportation, especially in EVs, manufacturers' main priority is to reduce vehicle weight because every kilogram of weight lost contributes to improved driving range. This is exactly why aluminium extrusions are replacing steel in battery enclosures, crash management systems and space-frame structures, making the EV sector one of the most significant drivers of demand growth.
  2.   3. Recycled aluminium and CBAM: Recycled billet uses up to 95 per cent less energy than primary metal. With the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) now pricing the carbon in imported metal, low-carbon and recycled extrusions are moving from “nice to have” to “must have” for anyone selling into Europe.
  4. Advanced manufacturing: Advancements in multi-hole die technology, high-precision extrusion presses, automation and AI-driven quality control are enabling manufacturers to produce increasingly complex profiles with greater efficiency, higher throughput and reduced material waste.

The market is a mix of global metal giants and specialist extruders. Major names include Norsk Hydro, Constellium, Hindalco (Novelis), China Zhongwang, Arconic, Kaiser Aluminum, Bonnell Aluminum, Gulf Extrusion, BALEXCO and ALUPCO, alongside hundreds of regional press operators. China Zhongwang is among the largest extruders by volume; Hydro and Constellium lead on low-carbon and automotive-grade profiles.

The competitive story right now is consolidation and decarbonisation, where the producers are buying capacity, investing in recycled-content billet and racing to offer “green” extrusions with a verified low carbon footprint.
