As per Mrs Habiba Al Mar'ashi , Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group (EEG),  the company is starting their action programme for New Year with the, ‘Can Collection Day,’ campaign. The main aim of this campaign will be to accumulate 20,000 kg of aluminium cans for recycling by the end of this year. For this, EEG is encouraging people from all walks of life to continue depositing aluminium cans for recycling so that EEG can meet its goal by December.

She also praised the fact that, over the last 26 years, the Can Collection Campaign has witnessed joint efforts from every sector of society in the UAE, including government entities, private corporations, hotels, academic institutions, individuals, and families, who have collected 359,346 kg of aluminium cans, resulting in the reduction of 5,394 MTCO2e, the saving of 8,722 m3 of landfill space, and the conservation of 81,782 million BTU of energy.

“The slogan for the year ‘Cancel the Liner, Enable the Circular’ was chosen for the simple fact to educate the public on the importance of shifting to a circular economy. The current way we as humans are living under the concept on manufacture, consume, discard is not a sustainable one. The effects of climate change are very prevalent in the region as well. Rising temperatures and sea level and expanding deserts are a threat we cannot ignore. Therefore, it is high time people realise the benefit of the circular. We need to close the loop and ensure minimal negative impact on the environment and recycling aluminium is one of the easiest products to shift to circular economy,” added Mrs Habiba Al Mar'ashi.

The active participation from the hospitality sector in the campaign was emphasized by Mrs Habiba Al Mar'ashi. She also appreciated that large sectors like hospitality embracing the circular economy are highly encouraging step as these initiatives culminate in a revolutionary approach to a more sustainable future.

A number of government, corporate, and academic entities collaborated and committed to the campaign's success. EEG appreciates the support of Dubai Municipality and RAK Ceramics for providing venue support and the Department of Economy and Tourism for helping spread the message; Abela & Co, McDonald's UAE, Bright Environment, A G Engineering, and Tristar for logistical support; Gulf News and Climate Control for coming on board as media partners for the campaign; and Abela & Co, McDonald's UAE, Bright Environment, A G Engineering, and Tristar for providing logistical support. In addition, EEG is thrilled to have Lucky Recycling on board as a recycling partner for the campaign.

EEG collects Paper, Plastic, Glass Bottles, Toners, Mobile Phones, E-Waste, and Metal Scrap for recycling in addition to Aluminum Cans. The simple act of recycling makes a significant contribution to resource conservation and the reduction of climate change's harmful effects. EEG believes that its message reaches every part of the UAE, allowing it to collaborate with all sectors of society to achieve sustainability.
