Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the UAE’s largest industrial company outside oil and gas, has signed an agreement with the Department of Government Enablement to recruit more than 200 UAE nationals in the newly launched EGA Academy industrial training programmes.
The signing took place at the academy’s Al Taweelah campus, witnessed by His Excellency Ibrahim Nasser, Undersecretary of the Department of Government Enablement, and Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA.
Under the agreement, Emiratis registered with the department and holding high school certificates will join EGA Academy’s industrial programmes over the next five years. This initiative is aligned with the UAE’s Operation 300 billion strategy to develop skilled workforce within the aluminium sector and boost productivity.
Building a skilled workforce
The academy builds on a legacy dating back to 1982, when EGA launched its first national training programmes. Since then, more than 5,000 UAE nationals have graduated, with many progressing into leadership roles.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said, “Attracting and developing the talent EGA needs to contribute to the UAE’s industrial growth and economic diversification has been one of our key priorities for decades. We look forward to working closely with the Department of Government Enablement to accelerate our targeted Emiratisation, which is already amongst the highest of any major company. We look forward to welcoming the new recruits to our team and supporting them in their career development.”
His Excellency Ibrahim Nasser added, “Through Mawaheb, the Department of Government Enablement is committed to empowering Emirati jobseekers with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to build meaningful careers. Partnerships with leading employers such as Emirates Global Aluminium are essential to this mission. Together, we are creating more than jobs; we are cultivating a workforce prepared for the future.”
Looking back to 2024
This agreement builds on efforts last year when EGA offered more than 100 jobs to young UAE nationals at the Tawdheef x Zaheb career fair. At the time, Abdulnasser Bin Kalban stated, “Recruiting and developing young Emiratis enables EGA to build the talent pipeline we need to succeed. Our goal is to create 500 additional opportunities for UAE nationals over the next three years.”
With 1,300 Emiratis already working at EGA, the company aims to rise the proportion of Emiratisation workforce to 50 per cent by 2027.
