As per the announcement by the French government, EDF, a power company completely acquired by the French state and taken off the stock market, has inked a 10-year agreement with Trimet France, an aluminium giant.

The terms of the contract specify that EDF will supply a substantial amount of power, indicated by 22TWH, to Trimet France, commencing in 2024. The official signing of the contract is scheduled for Monday.
Notably, in late 2022, the French government initiated a buyout of the remaining 16% stake in EDF, which it did not yet own. This strategic move saw the French state invest around 10 billion euros (U$10.9 billion) to gain full control of Europe's largest nuclear power plant operator, which was struggling with a significant debt burden.
Furthermore, this acquisition is part of President Emmanuel Macron's latest push to rely more on nuclear energy, which entails constructing a minimum of six new reactors soon.
With this latest development, it's clear that the French government is committed to bolstering its nuclear energy capacities and expanding its partnership with key players in the energy sector.
