East Manufacturing, an Ohio based manufacturer of aluminium flatbed, drop deck, dump and refuse trailers as well as aluminium truck bodies and steel dump trailers has introduced its aluminium air tank as standard on all trailer types and models.
The company has been working towards lightweighting its trailers and increasing its life span and recycling value by implementing anti-corrosive material and coating. Introducing aluminium air tank as a standard was a part of this initiative.

“We are pleased to offer aluminum air tanks as standard,” said Dave de Poincy, president, East Manufacturing.
Use of new technology by the suppliers and the development of new aluminium alloys and extrusion design have been helping East Manufacturing in weight reduction without compromising on strength and efficiency of the equipment. The company emphasises on strength-to-weight ratio to provide optimum R.O.I.
“The advanced technology provides lower maintenance cost and increased payload, reflecting our mission to provide optimum payload and reduced downtime for our customers,” he added.
Made with less corrosive and lighter material than the steel air tank, the aluminium air tank weighs about 6.2 kg, about 5 kg less than the steel. The trailer air tanks provide air pressure volume to operate the pneumatic system. The anti-corrosive material also adds to its life span and reduces maintenance costs.
Each East trailer has a minimum of two tanks, so a tandem-axle trailer is about 10 kg lighter than the trailer with steel tank. A trailer with more axles would need more tanks. Multi-axle trailers with a variety of lifts and/or steer axles could translate up to 68 kg in weight reduction.
