Started as a symbolic lights-out event in Sydney in 2007 by WWF and partners, Earth Hour today is one of the world's biggest environmental grassroots movements. Earth Hour, held annually on the last Saturday of March, involves millions of people across the globe turning off their lights to express respect for our world. Every year since 2007, millions of people take part in this global event to raise awareness about climate change.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in several parts of the world, most countries & its citizens shall be celebrating Earth Hour online.
To better understand how we as individuals can contribute and make a difference to this very important challenge faced by the man-kind, let’s first outline the importance and benefits of “Earth Hour” initiative:
The underlying motive of “Earth Hour 2021” is to create awareness and motivate people to take action to conserve our nature & its available resources.
One of the easiest ways to act and promote this initiative is by going digital. Many corporations today are doing their bit by take small but effective measures such as going paperless (no printouts), enhancing virtual interactions (thereby reducing need for travel & hence carbon footprint), driving automation, etc.
We at AlCircle have always been a strong advocate of the digital medium. All our digital offerings: be it disseminating news in the form of email newsletter, providing market intelligence in the form of research reports, online events in the form of e-exhibitions and even our quarterly magazines are all in digital form. So, we are doing our bit in ensuring that we facilitate reduction of carbon footprint in all activities that we do for ourselves as well as for our audience and customers.
To conclude we believe adopting digital is the way forward and probably a very effective manner of supporting the “Earth Hour” movement. Ongoing pandemic and the resultant restrictions on travel has made most people and corporations go digital and enhance its adoption. It’s time we embrace and realize the immense opportunities that digital medium can offer us.
Wishing you all HAPPY EARTH HOUR!
