Novelis reported a 20 per cent year-on-year increase in adjusted EBITDA to USD 508 million in the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, while rolled product shipments declined 2 per cent to 919,000 tonnes. Net sales rose 25 per cent to USD 5.9 billion from USD 4.7 billion in the corresponding quarter last year, mainly due to higher average aluminium prices. Higher shipments of beverage packaging and aerospace products were partly offset by lower volumes in automotive and speciality products. Net income attributable to Novelis' common shareholders increased 29 per cent to USD 210 million, compared with USD 163 million a year earlier. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has approved a €4bn loan to Serbian aluminium processor Nissal. The money will be used to refinance existing loans and provide working capital financing to the company. The funding will contribute to a restructuring of Nissal’s balance sheet, improving the maturity structure of its liabilities and strengthening it as it gears up for future business.
BMW has revealed details of just one of the projects they have been spending all those millions of euros of profit on recently. BMW has released details of two concept cars which they hope will be sufficiently different from all the other EV and hybrid offerings out there to generate volume sales. Both vehicles, while platforming many new ideas that have been gestating at BMW, have some notable design similarities. In particular, BMW states that the weight-saving by building the cars from carbon fiber on top of an aluminum chassis allows them to use significantly smaller and lighter (and therefore cheaper) lithium ion battery packs. Prices have received something of a fillip rising this morning from Tuesday’s close. A strong set of Chinese economic data together with strong metals-specific data has boosted sentiment. Unwrought Aluminium exports meanwhile rose by 39% m/m and by 19% y/y to 82Kt marking the strongest export level since April 2010. Unwrought aluminium imports also rose 4% m/m and 9% y/y. Alcoa Inc., the largest U.S. aluminum producer, said it started construction on the site of an alumina refinery in Saudi Arabia. Ceremonies were held today to mark the official groundbreaking at the refinery and the pouring of the first concrete at the aluminum rolling mill, Alcoa said in a statement. The 380,000-ton rolling mill will initially make aluminum sheet for cans, and in the future may produce metal for building products or car parts, Kenneth Wisnoski, who heads Alcoa's division that encompasses growth, energy, bauxite and Africa, said in a telephone interview from Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.

The hot coils, delivered to the inspection line by rail bound coil transport cars are inspected there and then taken to the high bay storage system.
