Century Aluminum gets a production boost as Iceland smelter restarts, lifting Q3 performance

Century Aluminum Company reported stronger financial results for the third quarter of 2026, as the restart of Line 2 at its Grundartangi facility in Iceland helped increase aluminium shipments, net sales and profitability. The production recovery, combined with favourable realised metal prices, supported a rise in net income to USD 302.6 million, compared with USD 249.3 million in the second quarter. The company's net sales reached USD 961.2 million during the quarter ended September 30, 2026, marking a sequential increase of USD 209.1 million. Aluminium shipments also climbed to 173,483 tonnes from 130,632 tonnes in the preceding quarter, reflecting the contribution of Line 2 returning to near-full production during the reporting period. Downstream aluminium producers' operating rates increased slightly this week, and the divergence between sectors continues

This week, the operating rate of major aluminium processors in China remained stable with a slight overall rebound, rising 0.1 per cent month-on-month. Performance was mixed across sectors, as the industry continues a moderate recovery trend. The operating rate for primary aluminium alloys climbed 0.6 percentage points to 61.4 per cent, driven by improved order volume and year-end momentum from automakers to meet their annual targets, with a positive short-term outlook. The operating rate for aluminium wire and cable rose 0.4 percentage points to 64.8 per cent, supported by recovering photovoltaic demand and restored margins, although the sustainability of the upward trend remains to be seen. The operating rate for secondary aluminium rebounded 0.6 percentage points to 53.9 per cent, with...

China Aluminum Profiles Industry Report, 2010-2011

China is the world's largest consumer of aluminum, with aluminum consumption of more than 14 million tons per year, accounting for around 40% of the global consumption. However, aluminum consumption per capita in China still remains at a low level. As matters stand, aluminum consumption per capita is about 10 kg in China, while that in the United States, Japan and Germany has reached 35 kg, 33 kg and 32.5 kg respectively. So there is still great space for aluminum consumption growth in China in the long run. The output of China’s aluminum profile increased to 9.33 million tons in 2009 from less than 2 million tons in 2001, with a compound growth rate of approximately 25.16%, substantially higher than the average growth rate of the global market. Bringing aluminium back to full strength

Alloy Heat Treatments can restore the strength of products machined from large blocks of aluminium and prevent potentially catastrophic failure. Optimum properties can be restored to proof-machined products using re-heat treatment, inspection, testing and release to the required temper. Alloy Heat Treatments (AHT) has the capacity to heat treat automotive and aircraft products up to 2.5m by 2m by 1.9m and 5 tonnes gross weight in a drop bottom facility at its Dudley site. In addition to providing straightforward heat treatment to manufacturers and machinists, it also offers both hardening and softening heat treatments to material stockists and suppliers who have difficulty in sourcing material in the required temper.
