Alumetal IPO to raise 293 mln zlotys for private equity owner

Poland's Alumetal said on Friday it would sell shares at 35 zlotys each in its initial public offering (IPO), which would raise 293 million zlotys ($96.21 million) for the majority owner of the aluminium parts maker. Alumetal's main shareholder, Poland-based private equity fund Abris, set the maximum IPO price in June at 44 zlotys, but then decided to sell the company 20 percent cheaper. The Warsaw bourse underperformed relative to its Western peers this year, with main index WIG losing 0.7 percent since January. That has made it harder for new companies to raise cash in IPOs. Abris plans to sell its entire 56 percent stake when Alumetal makes its debut on the Warsaw bourse in July. Alumetal, which has an annual capacity of 165,000 tonnes, produces components mostly for the automobile...

Steel and aluminium compete for auto space

The geographical shift in steelmaking capacity to emerging economies since the 70s has now picked up greater force in the automobile sector. In the global steel production of 1.607 billion tonnes (bt) in 2013, the share of Asia (1.08 bt) was 67.3 per cent, thanks largely to China, with output of 779 million tonnes (mt). As in steel, in the global automobile segment, too, China dominates. Last year, it accounted for production of 22.17 million units out of the global output of 87.3 million units. The geographical shift is best illustrated by a study that says in the expected global market growth of 33 million cars between 2007 and 2020, as many as 32 million units are to come from developing economies. That China will have the largest share in that growth is a given. Through the past...

China’s aluminum semis exports fall to 270,000 tons in May

China’s aluminum semis exports fell 6.90% to 270,000 tons in May from a year ago due to falling exports of plate/sheet, strip and flake, Shanghai Metals Market learned. The exports in May, virtually unchanged on a monthly basis, registered a 17.15% year-on-year drop of exports in aluminum plate/sheet, strip and flake, the major reason behind the total decline, SMM understood. China Customs showed China’s exports of aluminum plate/sheet, strip and flake fell to 129,400 tons in May due mainly to waning demand and no price advantages. World’s demand has shifted to high-end aluminum plate/sheet and strip, reducing demand for low-end products. Outbound shipments of extrusion, foil and pipe/tube remained on an upward track in May, though.
