The latest quarterly volume also marked a considerable rise from Q2...
India-based KEC International Limited is pushing ahead with Phase II of its aluminium conductor capacity expansion, even as a difficult second quarter dragged consolidated profit down. The Q2 FY27 investor presentation, dated November 2, lists the expansion as underway in its Cables & Conductors business, one of the few segments that grew in the quarter. The update comes over a year after KEC’s commissioning of the first phase of the plant in Vadodara in February 2025, marking an investment of about INR 600 million (USD 6.33 million). The company has not disclosed the capacity to be added, the investment or a completion date. Zhejiang Yueling Co. will expand the annual capacity of its 800,000-piece-per-year automotive aluminum wheel project to 1 million pieces after relocation and technical upgrade, it said in a statement filed to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange yesterday. The expansion will cost a total of 160 million yuan ($26 million), and is slated to be completed in one and a half years, it added. The company specializes in R&D and production of aluminum alloy wheels used in automobiles and motorcycles.

The Columbus area economic development organization has put the 826-acres it has set aside for American Speciality Alloys back on the market, alleging that the startup that plans a $1.2 billion aluminum plant has not been acting in good faith recently. Joe Max Higgins, chief executive of Golden Triangle Development LINK, said Tuesday that the startup company that says it plans to produce aluminum alloy for automotive bodies has not presented a financial plan to LINK. The company’s plan calls for a 1.4 million-square-foot facility that would employ between 650 and 850. Roger Boggs, founder and chief executive of the company, told the Mississippi Business Journal Tuesday evening that the financial plan would not be revealed until a site has actually been selected. Boggs said the news from...

Mississippi's chances of being the location for a proposed $1.2 billion aluminum mill that would hire 650 or more workers to supply aluminum for auto bodies have taken a step back. The Commercial Dispatch reports Lowndes County is no longer reserving 826 acres near the Golden Triangle Regional Airport for the American Specialty Alloys project. American Specialty announced last November its plans for a 1.4 million square-foot plant that would make more than 600,000 tons of aluminum sheet and plate each year, with operations planned to start in late 2016. But Lowndes County officials say they're heard nothing more and CEO Roger Boggs hasn't answered their questions about the project. Officials say keeping the land reserved for American Specialty meant they couldn't market it to anyone else.

Novelis Inc was forced to import aluminum can sheet from Asia and South America to make up for lost output from a three-week outage at its U.S. joint venture rolling mill in January, Chief Executive Officer Phil Martens said on Monday. The mill, which Novelis co-owns with Tri Arrows Aluminun, lost 20,000-25,000 tonnes of can sheet, Martens said in a conference call after the release of third-quarter to end-December results for the world's No. 1 flat-rolled products maker. During the outage, the company ran the mill with just one motor at 30 percent capacity. Novelis brought in can sheet from its own operations in Asia and South America after the Russellville, Kentucky-based Logan Aluminum mill's "unexpected" outage between Dec. 29 and Jan. 17, Martens said. Earlier, Novelis warned that...

Quintrex announced new trailers, including the first aluminium model for boats as little as 4.2m. Quintrex said the aluminium trailer range has been popular given its lightweight design. While Quintrex sells many of these trailers as packages, the company hopes to increase its share in the stand alone trailer market. The media day involved an "Explorer dinghy derby" where marine journalists had the chance to race against each other (safely) while testing the latest models in the range. The boats performed well for their size and look smart with the new fork bow design. They feature everything you'd need in a small fishing tinny. Quintrex's 390 Explorer is the company's highest selling boat and easily one of the most popular boats in Australia. With the backing of a large company like...

The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) will lead a new £6 million European-funded project to develop an advanced lightweight alloy for the aerospace industry. The MMTech project involves manufacturers and research institutions from across Europe, including two small companies from the Sheffield city region’s advanced manufacturing cluster. The project will develop new ways of working with an advanced material called gamma titanium aluminide. “Titanium aluminide is very light and strong, particularly at high temperatures, which makes it a very attractive material for aero engine components,” says Professor Keith Ridgway, executive dean of the University of Sheffield AMRC. “Unfortunately, it is notoriously difficult to use. This project will examine new...

REXAM’S board is keen to finalise a £4.3bn buyout offer from rival can-maker Ball, City A.M. understands. Bosses are thought to see the merger as the next obvious step in building the business, giving the two giants even more scale. UK-based Rexam’s share price has doubled since chief executive Graham Chipchase took the reins in 2010, restructuring the business by selling its plastics arm and bulking up in aluminium. US company Ball’s takeover offer at 610p represents a premium of 36 per cent, and the announcement of a price indicates talks are advanced. Rexam is already focused on cutting costs and building scale, particularly to help it deal with increasingly global buyers of cans. The main hurdle is competition concerns – the two firms would expect to shed some assets in norther Europe...

Aluminum processor Aleris Corp IPO-ARS.N filed on Thursday to withdraw its $500 million initial public offering, nearly three years after postponing the listing due to market conditions. Cleveland, Ohio-based Aleris had planned to list 31.3 million shares in a price range of $15 to $17. At the upper end of this range, the company would have been valued at about $1.8 billion. The withdrawal is a blow to the private equity firms that own Aleris. Oaktree Capital Management LP, a unit of Oaktree Capital Group LLC, and Apollo Global Management are among its biggest shareholders. Apollo declined to comment on the withdrawal of the IPO filing. Neither Aleris nor Oaktree were available for comment. Aleris initially filed to list shares on the New York Stock Exchange in April 2011. When it...

Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill Company (GARMCO), the Bahrain-based international aluminium rolling mill and one of the largest downstream aluminium facilities in the Middle East, today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for technical and operational co-operation with Dubai-based Metals Industries (MI), the holding company for the Saif Al Ghurair Group's aluminium and metals businesses. A new horizontal machining centre with 10-pallet pool is slashing throughput times for aerospace and automotive components. Subcontract machinist BCW has installed the Japanese-built Okuma MB5000H machine to add capacity for producing high precision components for the aerospace, automotive and off-road vehicle sectors. The machining cell was delivered by UK agent, NCMT, to BCW’s new, 30,000 sq ft unit opened in October 2014 on the Innovation Drive aerospace supply park in Burnley. Tony Kilfoyle, group engineering director said, “One aluminium aerospace part we machined on another make of twin-pallet HMC took 23 minutes to complete, whereas the Okuma finished it in well under half the time, taking just 11 minutes. “The reduction is partly due to being able to present a component on its...

Crown Holdings, a leading producer in global metal packaging products, reported a 31% YoY growth in earnings spurred by the strong demand for beverage cans in developing markets like Turkey and South-East Asia. In its third quarter earnings of 2014, the company reported $1.36 earnings per share while increasing its full-year earnings guidance to $3.27-$4.43 range. The market for carbonated soft drinks is weak in U.S. with growing health concerns related to the over-consumption of the drink while Asia Pacific is bogged down by the Chinese oversupply of metal creating fierce competition in the domestic can production industry. In Europe the industry is threatened by the high premiums. However, the acquisition of Mivisa and EMPAQUE will benefit Crown Holdings considerably despite the fact...

Rexam, the British aluminum can maker, said on Thursday that it was in talks to potentially be acquired by Ball Corporation in a deal that would value it at 4.29 billion pounds, or about $6.5 billion. The deal, if consummated, would combine two of the world’s largest makers of beverage cans. Rexam said the cash-and-share bid by Ball values the company at £6.10 a share. The bid consists of two-thirds in cash and one-third in new shares issued by Ball, Rexam said. Shares of Rexam jumped 23 percent to £5.50 in afternoon trading Thursday in London. Its shares traded as high as £5.75. “Discussions on other matters are continuing and there can be no certainty any formal offer will be forthcoming, or as to the terms of any offer,” Rexam said in a news release on Thursday. Rexam, based in London,...

A total of 1,550 workers would be added to the workforce for building the new aluminium F-150 pick up truck as announced by Ford Motors on Wednesday. Ford also says that nearly 300-500 union-represented workers will be promoted from the entry-level stage to the veteran worker stage giving a considerable boost to their wages by the end of the first quarter, a first for the company. Ford, along with two other major U.S. automakers had reached an agreement with the United Auto Workers union in 2007 that underlined the wage terms for the workers. According to the agreement, new entry-level workers would be paid a lower wage than veteran UAW union workers in order to stay competitive with the automakers of the world. 900 out of the 1,550 jobs would be for the Ford’s truck plant in Kansas City...

A delegation from the European aluminium industry today met with European Commission Vice-President for the Energy Union, Maroš Šefcovic. Following the high-level discussions, EAA Director-General Gerd Götz issues the following statement: “To meet fast-growing demand for aluminium in key end-use markets and maintain its leadership in innovation and sustainability, the European aluminium industry needs a functioning energy market. Examining the detail of a ‘fit-for-purpose’ Energy Union, we engaged with Vice-President Šefcovic on how to address unsustainably high energy costs, long term predictability and ensure competitive energy prices for industry. We also focused on mechanisms for full compensation of ETS indirect costs, which is an economic imperative for aluminium producers...

Sapa AS, a Norwegian manufacturer of extruded aluminium profile and a 50/50 joint venture owned by Orkla Group and Norsk Hydro announces results for the fourth quarter 2014. Underlying EBIT for Sapa declined compared to the previous quarter, mainly due to lower seasonal demand. Underlying EBIT for Sapa increased compared to the same quarter previous year due to stronger North American demand, improved margins, improvement programs and restructuring activities in Europe. Global automotive demand has supported the precision tubing results. Results for the fourth quarter 2013 included charges related to impairment of inventories and accounts receivables. The restructuring program initiated by the company in 2013, targeting annual synergies of around NOK 1 billion by the end of 2016, is ahead...

It appears to have been worth the wait for US car maker Ford. The company got off to a better start in its domestic market in 2015 than expected, thanks in part to a revamped version of the F-150, which has been the best-selling vehicle in North America for just over 3 decades. Ford's sales had lagged those of rivals in the second half of last year as a new version of the pick-up truck made of aluminium, rather than steel, was developed. Sales of the F-150 reached 54,370 last month, up 17 per cent from a year earlier and the pick-up truck's best showing for the month of January since 2004. Erich Merkle, an analyst at Ford, said: Momentum is especially strong for our F-Series pickup, with the all-new F-150 the hottest product on our dealer lots in January. The company's overall sales...
