Downstream aluminium weekly: Hydro invests €11 million adding third aluminium extrusion press at Rackwitz facility; Aludium resumes operations at Alicante aluminium rolling plant

EDITED BY : MAYURAKSHI GANGULY 5MINS READ

Hydro has incorporated a third aluminium extrusion press at its manufacturing facility in Rackwitz with Euro 11 million investment that will double the plant's extrusion capacity by 12,000 tonnes annually. Elkem, Hydro, and Altor-owned firm Vianode, the maker of sustainable engineered battery materials, has declared investing NOK 2 billion to enhance its first industrial-scale unit for producing sustainable battery materials in Herøya, Norway. Turkey’s largest producer of aluminium sheet and coil, Vig Metal has completed ten years in 2022 increasing production capacity to 40,000 with new investments concerning furnaces, casting and machining lines. Aludium has resumed its Alicante plant alongside its primary rolling mill after an unprecedented fire accident in April 3, 2021 which had left the organisation in ashes. A conglomeration created by 180 European companies has now joined hands with European Foil Association and Flexible Packaging Europe to mandate protocols on flexible packaging solutions containing aluminium foil. Vedanta will spend an additional $50 million (INR 400 crore) in investment to create a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the aluminium park’s development in Jharsuguda, Odisha after the initial US$3 billion investment to constitute the park was declared.

Just one year after the massive fire at the factory that erupted early on April 3, 2021, Aludium resumed operation of its Alicante plant with the L2, its primary rolling mill. Given the difficulty of organising the work and the global circumstances impacting the supply of components, the repair and commissioning of the mill were completed in less than 12 months, which is a record period.
