The ASI Certification programme is the first complete voluntary sustainability standard project for the aluminium value chain, and it was established after considerable multi-stakeholder input. The ASI CoC Standard specifies the standards for establishing a Chain of Custody for materials that are generated and processed across the value chain before being distributed to various downstream industries. The application of ASI's CoC Standard connects verified procedures at various stages of the supply chain – all of which are certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to ASI Certified Entities' goods. The CoC Standard also confirms that appropriate policies and due diligence procedures are in place to identify and address critical issues in the supply chain, such as corruption, human rights violations, and materials originating from conflict-affected and high-risk areas, and to support responsible sourcing.

“We warmly congratulate Crown Holdings, Inc. on achieving Chain of Custody Standard Certification for their Brazilian operations. Crown’s responsible and ethical sourcing program includes internal training for procurement teams, inclusion of relevant criteria in new supplier contracts, and third-party assessments and audits for potentially high-risk suppliers of goods and services with the goal for all core raw material and service suppliers to be in compliance with the company’s sourcing policies by 2030. These elements align with the supply chain due diligence principles in ASI Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Certification,” said Fiona Solomon, the Chief Executive Officer at ASI.

“We are proud to achieve ASI CoC (Chain of Custody) certification, demonstrating our commitment to society and sustainability through ethical and responsible material sourcing practices. In alignment with our Twentyby30 sustainability program, we are always guided by our values and goals to reduce impacts on the environment. This latest achievement validates our operational excellence in the management of the entire aluminum can production chain,” stated Wilmar Arinelli, Crown Brazil President, Crown Holdings, Inc.

Global Aluminium Industry Key Trends to 2030

“This latest achievement from our Crown Brazil team highlights not only their robust grasp of ESG (environmental, social and governance) practices, but also their strong sense of teamwork for achieving the CoC (Chain of Custody) ASI certification. The ASI program as a whole complements Crown’s Twentyby30 sustainability program, as both are committed to elevating Crown’s environmental, social and governance practices through tangible actions the company is taking,” said Dr. John Rost, VP Global Sustainability and Regulatory, Crown Holdings, Inc.
