Constellium NV, globally known for aluminium value-added products, announced on Monday, May 10, that it joined a European project ACHIEF - Innovative high-performance Alloys and Coatings for highly efficient intensive energy processes.

The project was launched in October 2020, aiming at helping the Energy Intensive Industrial sector reduce the overall consumption of process energy by using new high-performance materials and protective coatings. The programme gathers 11 partners from six European countries plus Turkey.
Based on specifications and operational parameters and by using an artificial intelligence tool, ACHIEF will propose novel alloy compositions and coatings. The performance and efficiency of the proposed materials solutions and protective layers will be evaluated in three use cases, including at Constellium’s R&D centre in Voreppe, France, which will be leading the testing of some of the new materials developed.
Constellium says this programme complements its long-held sustainability goal. Curtailing energy use and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions is the company’s top priority, with a target to reduce GHG emission intensity by 25 per cent than 2015 baseline levels. Improving efficiency is Constellium’s primary tactic in limiting greenhouse gas emissions.
