
China’s primary aluminium production stood at 3.25 million tonnes in April (30 production days), up by 9.87% year on year, showed an SMM survey. In January-April, the output totalled 12.94 million tonnes, an increase of 8.6% from the same period last year.
“Baikuang Debao and Tianlin continued to release output in April, and the average daily output in Inner Mongolia rose slightly by 400 mt from March,” SMM reported.

As of early May, there was 39.71 million tonnes among 43.5 million tonnes per year of existing primary aluminium capacity in operation. The operating rates across Chinese primary aluminium producers stood at 91.3%.
Domestic primary aluminium operating capacity is likely to grow steadily in May. The May output is expected to stand at 3.37 million tonnesand annual operating capacity to 39.68 million tonnes, as planned restart production at Gansu Zhongrui and Shanxian Hengkang will start in later May.
Primary aluminium import is expected to come in at 80,000 tonnes in May.
