According to the Shanghai Metals Market, China's primary aluminium inventories decreased by 18,000 tonnes week-on-week across eight major consumption areas, including SHFE warrants. Therefore, on Thursday, December 1, the inventories totalled 500,000 tonnes, which in comparison with the last Monday of the previous month, November 28, plummeted by 16,000 tonnes. As of now, the inventories in November dropped by 503,000 tonnes, as recorded in the same period last year and 81,000 tonnes on a month-on-month scale.

Along the eight major Chinese provinces, the aluminium ingot inventories kept on declining, excluding only Gongyi. The inventory in Wuxi witnessed plunging aluminium inventories due to curtailed imports as some of the shipment was diverted to South China, where traders received better premiums. The inventory in Gongyi had to experience accumulation since downstream purchases were low due to the pandemic and augmenting aluminium prices. Though the inventories were low, spot premiums went down owing to the falling downstream demand. The destocking will gradually narrow down if the spot premiums alter because of recent aluminium rates.
Last week, on November 24, primary aluminium inventories stood at 518,000 tonnes, which slumped across eight major consumption areas to come in at 500,000 tonnes on December 1, Thursday, with a week-on-week decline.
The chart below indicates the current status of primary aluminium inventories across China in more detail:

The provinces in China overall saw declining aluminium inventories with the ingot accumulation heightening only in Gongyi by 5,000 tonnes to rest at 68,000 tonnes. Otherwise, all the remaining provinces saw decreasing volumes, like in Nanhai, the inventory went down by 9,000 tonnes, closing at 116,000 tonnes. The social aluminium inventory dipped by 8,000 tonnes in Wuxi and the collection stopped at 111,000 tonnes. In the Chinese province of Hangzhou, the aluminium inventories slumped by 4,000 tonnes, resting at 69,000 tonnes. In Shanghai and Tianjin, the aluminium inventory shed 1,000 tonnes each, closing at 39,000 tonnes and 74,000 tonnes, respectively.
Only in Chongqing and Linyi, there was no change registered.
