
In July 2023, China's primary aluminium exports reached 22,700 tonnes, climbing 200 per cent year-on-year. But the country's total exports in the year's first seven months reflected a fall of 56 per cent to 80,300 tonnes.

China's pre-baked anode exports dipped by 0.42 per cent M-o-M and dwindled by 21.63 per cent Y-o-Y to come in at 161,800 tonnes in July 2023. According to rough calculations, the average export unit price of pre-baked anode in July was $768.14 per tonne (approx.), down by 4.89 per cent M-o-M and 2-year low.
The cumulative export volume of China's pre-baked anode during January-July 2023 was 2.0421 million tonnes – 14.81 per cent less than the corresponding period of the last year.
China's aluminium sheets and strips exports reached 228,000 tonnes in July, marking a 2 per cent rise M-o-M but a 37 per cent decrease Y-o-Y. Aluminium extrusion exports (HS codes 76041010, 76041090, 76042100, 76042910, 76042990) also showed a slight M-o-M growth at 89,500 tonnes. However, it represented a year-on-year downfall of 4.11 per cent.
Following a similar trend, China's aluminium foil exports grew by 1 per cent M-o-M but fell 25 per cent over the year to amount to 107,900 tonnes in July. Aluminium wheels exports dropped 5 per cent M-o-M and 6 per cent Y-o-Y to total 75,500 tonnes.
In July, China's import volume of primary aluminium was 116,600 tonnes, marking a sharp rise of 128.40 per cent Y-o-Y. From January to July 2023, China's primary aluminium imports totalled 602,000 tonnes – 142 per cent higher than a year earlier. Among them, the import volume of unwrought non-alloyed aluminium with aluminium content less than 99.95 per cent was 602,021,092 kg, and the import volume of unwrought non-alloyed aluminium with aluminium content greater than or equal to 99.95 per cent was 223,768 tonnes.
The import volume of aluminium scrap was 148,400 tonnes in July after recording a slight dip of 0.95 per cent Y-o-Y and a decline of 8.76 per cent M-o-M. During January-July 2023, China's total aluminium scrap imports reached 969,800 tonnes, up by 24.29 per cent Y-o-Y.
