Other than being the top aluminium producer in the world, China is one of the leading producers of aluminium semis. Chinese production and exports of semi-finished products (semis) hit six-month highs in mid 2016. China has been accused by competitors of selling semi-finished metal into oversupplied global markets below market rates. In fact, The U.S. International Trade Commission has launched an investigation into the global aluminium trade and into the allegations by the major U.S. aluminium producers about China’s unlawful export of semis to the U.S. market.
Here, we are trying to analyse the trading trends of aluminium bars, rods, and profile in China to understand if there is any major upturn or downturn in the export of aluminium bars, rods, and profile by China. We would also try to list out the major importers from China for a micro level understanding.
In 2014, China exported 861,895 tons of aluminium bars, rods, and profile globally. The total value of aluminium export was USD 2.4 billion. The amount jumped up to 1.1 million tons in 2015 registering a slight growth. In 2015, aluminium bars, rods, and profile export delivered USD 4 billion revenue to the exporters. In 2016, China is estimated to export 1.1 tons of aluminium bars, rods, and profile globally with a revenue realization of USD 4.4 billion. The export more or less remains flat in last one year.

For the first 10 months of 2017, China is estimated to export about 1 million tons of aluminium bars, rods, and profile and the revenue realization is expected to be of USD 4.2 billion.
It is to be noted that aluminium profile takes the largest proportion in China's output of aluminum semis, and the development of aluminium profile production plays an important role in the growth of China's output of aluminium semis. According to data released by China's customs office, the country's exports of aluminum bars, rods and profiles totalled 690,845 tons over January-July 2016, netting an increase of 9.5% from the same period last year. However, the WTO intervention may put pressure on export of aluminium bars, rods, and profile keeping it flat in H2 2016 and in 2017.
China exports a substantial amount of aluminium bars, rods, and profile to UK, Germany, South Africa and Australia. The export to USA has dropped marginally in last three years.
