The mining giant says it is looking at ways to reduce its costs at its Clermont Coal Mine, west of Mackay, to improve competitiveness as the price of thermal coal drops. "A review is underway and although the details are to be worked out, it will unfortunately mean redundancies will be required," a spokesman said in a statement to AAP on Thursday. "We do not take this decision lightly and are committed to keeping our employees informed and providing support to those affected." The long-awaited dust collector system on kiln #14 at the Bosai bauxite plant was put into full operation today at 9:40 am. As was anticipated, there was no dust emission from the kiln except a very minimal amount of smoke when the kiln started up and which lasted only a few seconds. The rest of the emission was mist that seemingly disappeared before the eyes. Compare the two stacks. The one with the smoke is kiln 13 and the one without the smoke is kiln 14. The dust collector on kiln 13 is already under construction and is to be completed shortly.
